Josh Hoyer and the Shadowboxers at The Zoo Bar | Photo Essay

A head cold couldn’t slow down Josh Hoyer on Friday night.

After a self-prescribed shot of whiskey, the cold transformed the normally roaring voice of the the Shadowboxers frontman into a deep, soulful whisper — an impromptu wrinkle in the soul repertoire of the Lincoln seven-piece.

The Zoo Bar was packed all night for the swaying bass lines that walked up and down the frets, horns and keys, and culminated in mellow jives.

Opening act, A Ferocious Jungle Cat, directed the audience toward the dancefloor to “get down, dirty and sweaty” with drummer, “Deeep C” (Cal Harman) busting out rhythms and rhymes while Billy D. (Will Harman) and Big Mike (Mike Masin) traded keys and guitar throughout the set.
