Jeremy Buckley on Lincoln Calling | A Conversation

[Editor's note: A Conversation is an HN series that features two disparate members Nebraska's music scene interviewing each other about what they do best. This is part one. Read part two on Wednesday. We hope you learn a little.]

Jeremy Buckley's early days as a gamer say something about where he is now at 34.

The founder of Lincoln Calling, which celebrates its ninth year Oct. 9-14, says he was drawn to titles such as SimCity and Civilization because he likes being able to do all the planning and let it play out, whereas being a musician, you do both.

"I think the reason I haven't ever tried to create music is because I'd never know how to play it in front of other people," he says, adding later, "I'm not nervous at putting on a music festival with 100-plus bands and trying to convince 5,000 people to go to it."

Buckley's appreciation for local and national music comes through clearly as he talks with and answers questions from Damon Lee, UNL assistant professor of composition and digital arts. He speaks on his introduction to arts and entertainment writing, how that led to his Lincoln Calling work and how Nebraska's music community supports itself.

All-access tickets for Lincoln Calling are available for $30 through Wednesday, Oct. 10. Bands confirmed so far are listed below the jump. Follow Lincoln Calling on Facebook for more info.
