Finding the Holy Grail | Gear Nebraska

by Brendan G-W

This week we will be taking a look at the Electro Harmonix Holy Grail. The HG is a compact reverb stomp box.

It offers three varieties of reverb: spring, hall and flerb. The spring setting is a pretty decent replica of an actual spring reverb tank. The hall setting is a nicely designed algorithm that provides a warm and open sound. The flerb setting is um, interesting I suppose. It's a combination of flange and reverb, and I can't think of an occasion that I would ever use it.

The pedal is true bypass and uses one knob to control the dry/wet amount of reverb. This offers the ability to specifically dial in the exact sound you want. And while this is a guitar pedal, it is certainly not limited to just guitar use. I have used it on synths and with microphones.

I especially like the pedal as an option when recording vocals, it sounds better than most computer plug-in reverb effects. For being a compact pedal, this thing can deliver killer sounds.
