On this episode of Under the Influence, host Dan Scheuerman goes deep with ambient producer Dereck Higgins.

Dereck talks about growing up in a house where Miles Davis used to drop by to score heroin and jam with his father; where he was assaulted by a blues guitarist; where he would run home to escape beatings from the neighborhood kids who wanted to smash his Beatles records.

In his search to understand himself, love and God, he came close to the priesthood and got deep into prog, ultimately falling in love with Genesis, whose song "The Cinema Show" is the subject of this epic episode of Under the Influence.

Dereck's new album Flyover is out now on DVH Recordings, and can be found in Omaha at Homer's and Almost Music.
