“Cecilia, You Saint” by Anniversaire I Ingrained Video

by Andrew Roger

On the final night of the 2011 OEA Awards showcase July 9, we squeezed our way through the doorway divider into the Barley Street Tavern to catch Anniversaire play their single off their latest album, Nightingale (read HN's review here).

The quaint title of "Ceclia, You Saint" is a perfect almagation of the Omaha band's sound — beginning with percussive tribal drumming, leading to orchestral crescendos of orchestral pop and meditative lyrics that come in and out. This is music that makes you forget where you're at. Your eyes weave from one performer to another trying to see all the parts seperately. And your ears are floating, rolling with the waves of sound. This isn't noise, overwhelming the room. This is finely tuned pop, specific parts move in sync and harmony.
