What I miss most about high school is marching through rain, through sweltering streets and through the practice field, mapping out our halftime show. Carrying a marching snare drum, a bulky instrument that split my eardrums a time or two, was empowering for the mild-mannered young man I was and still am.

With steady eighth notes on the rims, a syncopated bass drum and lyrics that could inspire the most timid sophomore to create something, The Mynabirds' "Body of Work" brings me back to those days. Premiered today on Rolling Stone, the song follows "Generals" as the second released from the forthcoming album GENERALS, due out June 5 on Saddle Creek Records.

"'Body of Work' is a reminder of our absolute power to reimagine, redesign and transform our lives at any given moment into something we enjoy to the utmost, something that's wholly and fully our own," says Mynabirds frontwoman Laura Burhenn. "We are not victims of the past, but artists who can shape it into the most brilliant form imaginable; we are living things, bodies of work to edit."
