While it might not be a surprise to those frequenting local venues, Lincoln's diverse musical landscape deserves more attention. Our state's capital city boasts dark, experimental music by a man in black leather; songs about creeping nematodes, the Spanish Civil War and a space dock hoedown. It is home to the Nashville-in-Nebraska stylings of songwriters such as Lloyd McCarter and the rhymes of rappers such as Scru Face Jean.
As we hope to enlighten the rest of the country, and the world for that matter, about what Nebraska has to offer, we have a few ambassadors of the scene that have brought the rest of the country and the world to us. One of those Nebraskans is Daniel Martinez, originally from Peru, who has replanted his Andean roots in our fertile cultural soil.
His band Jarana plays his composition "Bahia" here at Lincoln Calling 2012 at The Zoo Bar. Although I would fully support any decision to visit Peru having been there, for those who seek a less expensive alternative, Jarana and Daniel Martinez give your ears their own form of transportation. Let's fly:
