“Arabian Knights (Siouxsie and the Banshees cover)” by Icky Blossoms | Music Video

words by HN staff

Yes, there are street lights in Arabia.

At least, that is, in Icky Blossoms' version of the exotic land. It's an Arabia built for a music video, a visual complement to the Omaha band's Record Store Day split seven-inch, Cowboy Knights, with The Black Lips. Singer Sarah Bohling opens the video by riding a camel as those electric metropolitan artifacts stick out behind her ride.

"Arabian Knights" then transitions to a similarly faux foreign landscape full of flashing cool-colored lights and plug-in palm trees. The directors in High5Collective — with a portfolio including Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino videos — chose to redefine their setting, which differs from the original 1981 "Arabian Knights" video by Siouxsie and the Banshees. See that precedent here.

After watching, consider seeing Icky Blossoms live as they open for GROUPLOVE tonight in Lincoln at the University Program Council's spring concert. The free show will start at the NU Coliseum at 14th and Vine streets at 8 p.m. RSVP here.

The seven-inch release for Record Store Day — also featuring The Black Lips' cover of "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" — will be available at participating music shops this Saturday. See a roundup of Nebraska record stores to visit on Record Store Day here.
