Virginia Tanous

Delving into musical styles from America, Britain and beyond, I explore the roots of blues and folk music through the work of the masters. With a rich and textured guitar style inspired by classical training and sultry vocals reminiscent of Peggy Lee and k.d. lang, I approach music as a form of storytelling, both through voice and instrumentation. Through song, it is possible to learn the stories of those who came before us, and I seek to communicate the ancestral connection that music can offer. Both my original work and cover songs span the styles of vintage folk artists, including Nick Drake, Richard Thompson, John Renbourn, Fairport Convention, Tom Waits, and Joni Mitchell, as well as American Delta blues guitar in the style of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Memphis Minnie, Bob Brozman, and Robert Johnson.

My endeavors in the Omaha music scene have taken me to the stages of The Waiting Room, Slowdown, Barley Street Tavern, Side Door Lounge, and Library Pub, among others.
